EarSpy - How does it work ?

In technical terms, the EarSpy micro earpiece is a wireless receiver which transforms audio signals through electromagnetic induction. The device can be used in exactly the same way as any other hands-free Bluetooth® set, in conjunction with your cell phone, MP3 player or two-way radio. All you have to do is “pair” the EarSpy Control Board to your cell phone in order to make or receive covert calls. The wireless, undetectable earpiece receives the signal from the phone through a transmitter.

The Bluetooth® compliant EarSpy micro earpiece kit consists of:

  1. 3 Earpieces – 2 x NANO (7mm x 5mm) earpieces and 1 x Normal (9mm x 7mm) (larger) earpiece. Note: Earpieces require no battery or power source. The hi-tech micro EarSpy earpieces use micro-pulse technology that emit signals through electromagnetic induction.
  2. Neck Loop which acts as an induction transmitter that sends signals to the earpieces. The neck loop cable is covered with smooth cloth and can easily and comfortably concealed under the user’s clothing
  3. EarSpy Control Panel. The Control Panel is a pocket-sized PCB circuit board to which the following devices are connected:
    • Microphone
    • Neck loop (transmitter)
    • Stereo jack for Bluetooth® enabled MP3 player or radio
    • Battery clip to connect 9V battery power source
    • Beeper button
    • Bluetooth cell phone connection
  4. Ultra sensitive microphone
  5. Beeper button
  6. Power source: 9V rechargeable battery with recharger device*

* The rechargeable 9V battery pack (including charger and battery) is an optional extra that can be purchased with the kit and does not come standard with the EarSpy earpiece kit.

Method of Operation:

The user conceals the neck loop (transmitter cord) under their clothes, conceals the EarSpy Control Board in their pocket, inserts the EarSpy micro earpieces in their ears, and before entering the room for that important exam or crucial business meeting or court date, makes a call to their partner, or turns on their MP3 player (if they have recorded notes). The EarSpy microphone is ultra sensitive and can pick up even the softest whisper. The person on the other end of the user’s cell phone will hear every word, even if it is whispered. The beeper button can also be used to transmit simple yes or no responses, which is especially useful in situations where the user cannot speak out loud. The system is powered by a 9V battery.

How it works

The neck loop is attached to the EarSpy Control Board, and acts as a transmitter. The neck loop sends signals to the earpiece and the earpiece converts these signals into electromagnetic vibrations which the ear drum picks up as sound.

EarSpy earpieces

The EarSpy kit comes standard with 3 skin-colored micro-sized earpieces:

  • 2 x NANO earpieces (7mm x 5mm)
  • 1 x Normal earpiece (9mm x 7mm)

These micro earpieces are designed to fit inside the ear canal (like putting a tiny wad of cotton wool inside your ear). This conceals the earpiece completely from any outside detection, and also positions it close to the ear drum to emit sound vibrations. Because the micro earpieces work on a vibration technology, it means that they cannot be overheard by anyone, and cannot be damaged by ear wax as with so many other ear products. The EarSpy micro earpieces come with a LIFETIME WARRANTY**

**The LIFETIME WARRANTY includes the instant replacement of defective parts with a new kit. The warranty ONLY covers inherent product failure due to manufacturer’s defect. Any other cause of damages such contact with liquids or other corrosive substances or foreign matter, wear and tear or abusive treatment, will NOT be covered by the warranty.

EarSpy Control Board

The Control Board includes volume adjustment buttons and settings to allow call answer and end call, as well as voice dialing and last-number dialing capabilities. It also includes a sync button to activate the Bluetooth® capability in tandem with a cell phone.

Neck loop

The transmitter (neck loop) is designed to hang around the user’s neck, concealed under their clothing.  The neck loop is a thin and highly flexible cable designed for comfort. The cable is covered by smooth cloth so that it does not irritate the skin and will not cause skin allergies or other discomfort. (The cable has been laboratory tested and approved to ensure that it is allergy free and safe to use). TIP: For an even better fit and instant wear, the cable can be permanently sewn onto the inside of a garment like a T-Shirt, or blouse.

Microphone

The ultra sensitive microphone is capable of recording a whisper from a few meters away in a silent room. This EXTRA sensitive microphone includes Smart Voice zoom/focus technology which enables it to scan sound in the area selectively, ignoring background sound and noises, for example, in a room full of people. The microphone is also concealed under clothing.

Beeper button

The beeper is very useful in situations where it is not possible to talk. When pressed it sends a virtual tone over the phone and yes/no responses can be made in this manner. The beeper can also be used to send Morse code.

Bluetooth®

The EarSpy Control Board is Bluetooth® v2.0 class 2 compatible. This communicates with all cell phones, MP3 players, two-way radios or other similar devices with Bluetooth® capabilities. Class 2 Bluetooth devices are rated at up to 10 meters in direct visibility range. A2DP, Headset, Hands Free, AVRCP and SPP profiles are supported. This means that you can keep your cell phone in your bag or jacket which can be hung on the classroom coat rack meters away! That way there will be absolutely NO PROOF that you are conducting secret communications with an outside party. Simply begin the call by using the “last call” redial button on the EarSpy Control Panel in your pocket.

Power Source

The EarSpy Control Board used a 9V battery. Long life / heavy duty alkaline batteries, lithium batteries, rechargeable NiCd/NiMH/Li accumulators are recommended.

Line input

Some users may require a line-input to apply audio signal externally with a wire. Differential line-in pins (+-7V max) are available on the Control Board (P9 and P10 pins).
